A tan field holds three elongated hexagonal guls in a vertical column, joined by striped bars. Each gul encloses a pointed core with small geometric marks in deep red and steel blue. Red triangular shapes project from the sides into the open ground between the central figures. The main border is burgundy, patterned with a row of small cream triangles. A secondary band on cream carries diamond motifs in blue, red and teal. Thin dark red stripes frame these bands on either side. The pile is full from center to edge. It brings a bright geometric note to a small floor space, the tan ground keeping the red borders light. At 2' by 2'6", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

The reds of Turkmen weaving came from madder root, and each tribe had its own gul. Tekke rugs are the most easily identified of the Turkmen, because the quartered gul of their larger carpets became something of a trademark and was often copied elsewhere. Weavers of the Torkaman tribes in northeastern Persia follow a strict repeating grid of gul motifs, one octagonal figure repeated across the field with almost no variation. It sounds austere, but it is the opposite: because the drawing never changes, all the life is in the color. The design here maintains that rigid repetition in a stack of three connected guls. Deep red and steel blue accents stand out clearly against the pale ground, giving the fixed pattern its energy.

Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1005/6964/5369/files/4834__10288696033593__45527616061753.png?v=1788430971
