3024-2x7-persian-handmade-gharajeh-vintage-runner-rug
3024 - Persian Gharajeh Runner Rug 2'5" x 6'11"

Brown hexagons and large cream rosettes alternate down the length of this charming rug. Small cream blossoms, navy hooks and geometric forms sit on the deep red field. A column of handsome separate medallions runs down the center, alternating between brown hexagons and large cream rosettes, the hexagons with small hooked pendants at top and bottom. The pattern reaches the edges with only a narrow border of small marks to frame it. A few patches across the face have worn thin, and the red reads paler where the weave shows through. Strong red and navy shapes draw the eye along its length in a narrow passage. At 2'5" by 6'11", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

The best-known pattern of Gharajeh is three geometric medallions, the central one with a latch-hooked outline in a different color and the other two eight-pointed stars. Britannica says the runners of Gharajeh resemble those of Karabagh in the Caucasus but look more Persian. Gharajeh, also written Karaja, is a village district north of Heriz in northwestern Persia. Its signature is a column of separate medallions running down a narrow field, each one a different shape, rather than a single centered one. That layout suits long formats, and Gharajeh runners are the pieces the district is known for. This rug keeps that vertical arrangement, setting hexagonal cores against star-like flowers. The deep red ground holds the navy and cream accents in a tight, geometric scatter.

Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
