Narrow guard stripes in dark red with small cream flowers flank it on both sides. White specks and low spots show across the field, mostly in the middle rows, where the foundation comes through. It grounds a seating area, the cream squares easing the depth of the red ground. Bakhtiari rugs were made under the patronage of the tribe in certain villages southwest of Isfahan. A grid of compartments divides the field, and each one holds its own tree, vase or flowering plant.
