Five arched prayer niches make this a charming rug. Five arched prayer niches repeat down the muted pink field. Each niche holds a small teal and blue floral sprig at its base, set against the open pink ground. Cream shapes fill the upper corners of every arch, and a tall cream panel with a dainty wavy vine runs beside each niche. A handsome cream and tan border carries teal and blue bands around the whole rug. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. The pile is worn in streaks across the pink. The soft pink keeps this long shape light enough for a narrow passage. At 4' by 9'11", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
In its day the Isparta Carpet Palace was the largest carpet exchange in Turkey. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs softer and chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing, and the field usually reads calm from across a room. The piece retains that orderly drawing in its repeated arches and balanced floral sprays. Rather than the single medallion often seen in the region, the prayer-niche layout stretches the motif into a long series.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
