A central ivory diamond medallion sits on the deep red field of this wonderful rug. Small geometric figures and scattered blossoms fill the deep red field around a central ivory diamond. This medallion holds a lovely floral spray in orange, green and brown, outlined in teal. Ivory corner pieces carry brown flower heads and small leaves. The main border is burgundy, set with small geometric marks in teal and orange. Narrow cream guard stripes edge the field on both sides. The pile is full on the field and along the borders. It settles the bright orange and teal accents within the rich red ground. At 1'10" by 3'7", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
In the 5th century BCE the Greek historian Herodotus described Ecbatana, the ancient city under Hamedan, as ringed by seven concentric walls. Many village rugs from around Hamedan went to market through Mosul several generations ago, which is why they were called Mosul rugs. Hamedan is a city and weaving region in western Persia, and hundreds of villages around the city have sent rugs to its markets for generations. Long narrow formats are a Hamedan specialty, woven for the corridors of local houses. This rug keeps that long shape and the bold drawing found in the region. The ivory medallion and corners contrast sharply with the saturated red field.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
