A large stepped diamond makes this a charming runner. A large stepped diamond in navy and deep red holds rows of geometric medallions in red and ivory. Cream ends at the top and bottom carry scattered birds and flowers in rust, green and orange. The beautiful main border is deep red with small rosettes, framed by narrow guard stripes. The pile runs low in spots, and white specks show where the weave is thin. The cream ends lighten the navy center along this long, narrow format. At 3'1" by 6'8", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Baluch rugs
In Afghanistan most Baluch lived until recently in tents or small villages close to the western border. A Baluch bride and her mother wove the balisht, a pillow or grain bag that was often part of the dowry, and such bags were usually woven in pairs. Baluch rugs come from the semi-nomadic groups of eastern Persia and western Afghanistan. Formats are small because the looms were portable. This long rug sets a navy, dense center against bright cream ends. The small geometric shapes repeat down the length of the field and the borders.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
