A diamond medallion with a cream rosette core holds the middle of this lovely rug. The deep red field holds a central diamond medallion with a cream rosette core and small pendants. Cream spandrels occupy each corner with pretty scrolling vines, red leaves and touches of steel blue. The handsome main border is cream, carrying a row of small red blossoms and fine vine work. The pile is low in places across the red field. It grounds a tight spot with warm red tones and bright cream corners that open up the drawing. At 2'2" by 3'11", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
Hamedan was the capital of the Seljuq sultans for 50 years, from the second half of the 12th century. It is a trade center on the main highway between Tehran and Baghdad, and in the Persian rug trade its rugs rank second only to the carpets of Kerman. Hundreds of villages around the western Persian city of Hamedan have sent rugs to its markets for generations. Hamedan specializes in long narrow formats, woven for the corridors of local houses, which is why so many fine vintage runners come from here. The modest dimensions suit a narrow passage where the central medallion and cream corners stay clear.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
