The tan cartouche on navy in each corner is the place to start describing this delightful rug. Although small blossoms in cream and teal crowd the deep red field, the red still shows clearly between the vines. The medallion is soft-lobed and tan, with a teal star for a core and a ring of navy around it. In each corner a tan cartouche rests on navy. A splendid navy main border holds red palmettes on vines edged in cream, with charming tan rosettes between them. Cream stripes with red diamonds frame a broad teal band. The pile is full from edge to edge. The teal band cools the red in this formal carpet. At 7'7" by 10'6", it fits a dining table for four with the chairs pulled out, or a living room with the sofa and chairs fully on it.

About Kashmar rugs
The Textile Museum in Washington names Sabzevar, Herat, Mashhad and Dorokhsh among the Khorasan cities cited as sources of fine carpets. The Herat carpets are the classic carpets of Khorasan, and pieces in the herati pattern survive from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Kashmar lies in the Khorasan region of eastern Persia, and its workshops worked large. Where Kashmar often leans toward pictorial and garden designs, this rug keeps to a vine pattern around a small medallion. The generous borders of the region show here as a wide navy border with a teal band inside it, and the tan corner pieces add a warm note. The reds run deep, and the full pile keeps them rich across the whole field.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
