The pink and cream cartouches on the navy outer border are the place to start describing this charming rug. At the center, a tall diamond medallion in navy, cream and pink blossoms sits on a deep red field, with pointed ends at the top and the bottom. Handsome sage green and cream spandrels fill the four corners, carrying lovely scrolling blossoms in pink and blue. A navy outer border holds pink and cream cartouches linked by small blue flowers. A pale pink guard stripe runs just inside the border. The pile is low in a few spots across the field. The navy frame balances the red ground, giving this large rug a warm presence. At 8'9" by 12'3", it fits a dining table for six with the chairs pulled out, or a full living room seating group.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Kerman rugs
Since the 16th century Kerman has been the origin of highly sophisticated carpets in well-organized designs. Nadir Shah took many of Kerman’s most skilled weavers north after 1739 and the city was pillaged in 1794, yet its rug industry continued to prosper. Kerman in southeastern Persia worked in the softest palette of the major Persian centers: powder blue, ivory, rose and pale green, often on a pale ground. This rug shares part of that palette in its rose and pale blue flowers and its cream and sage corner pieces. The drawing is curvilinear, with scrolling blossoms crowding the medallion and the corners. The deep red field is the strongest color, set off by the navy border.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
