The near-black medallion and slate blue lobes make a charming center for the red field. The deep red field is crowded with curling vines, palmettes and flower heads in tan, slate blue and navy. A large lobed medallion lies at the middle, near-black with slate blue lobes around a tan core. Handsome cream corner pieces hold slate blue lobes and small vine work. A splendid near-black outer border carries a scroll of cream, gold and red blossoms. Narrow guard stripes in cream and tan run inside it. Tiny white marks scatter across the red where the pile has worn thin. The dense drawing and the near-black border hold the red steady across a wide floor. At 9'2" by 13'5", it fits a dining table for six with the chairs pulled out, or a full living room seating group.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Najafabad rugs
Carpet weaving was revived in Isfahan in the second quarter of the 20th century and expanded rapidly, making carpets for the European market. Najafabad sits just west of Isfahan in central Persia, and its workshops wove in the Isfahan manner at a more practical scale. The palette is classic Persian, madder red with ivory and indigo. This rug follows that palette, with a large medallion on the red field and a dark border.

Full care guideReturns
If a rug isn’t right for your space, get in touch within 7 days of delivery (14 days in the European Union) and we’ll help arrange a return or exchange. Because each piece is one of a kind, we handle every return personally.
Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
