A stepped diamond medallion sits on the plum field of this lovely runner. On a plum field, pretty curling vines and small blossoms in cream and blue surround a central medallion. The medallion is a stepped diamond with a cream center, and pendants extend from the upper and lower edges. Handsome cream corner pieces fill the four corners of the field, dense with blue floral sprays. The main border is blue, carrying a repeat of cream rosettes and leaves. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. The pile is low in places, and the weave shows through. It grounds a narrow passage, the soft plum keeping the blue border from feeling heavy. At 3'9" by 7'10", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
Until 2008 the Isparta carpet factory was still working, a center of the craft for a wide region. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs softer and chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing, and the field usually reads calm from across a room. This runner holds that orderly layout, with the medallion and corner pieces set symmetrically. The plum field and blue border keep their color, while the cream accents stay bright against the darker ground.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
