A teal and ivory medallion with pendants sits on this charming rug. At the center, a teal and ivory medallion with pendants sits on a dusty rose oval scattered with small floral sprays. A handsome teal lattice fills the ground between the oval and the frame. Ivory corners hold lovely scrolling vines in teal and pink. The wide border is ivory, carrying a chain of teal leaves and pink blossoms around the edge. A few patches of the rose ground have worn thin, and the foundation shows in spots. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. At 4'2" by 8'2", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
In the first half of 1911 the company workshop in Isparta wove about 12,318 square meters of carpet, more than any other workshop of the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers. The largest carpet exchange in Turkey in its day was the Isparta Carpet Palace. Isparta sits in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, and its workshops spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. This rug keeps that orderly drawing and the calm read of a town piece, with the floral motifs set clearly against the ground. The teal lattice and the ivory border give the dusty rose field a cool frame.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
