Cream blossoms and green leaves sit on the open ground of this charming rug. Set within a mauve field, cream blossoms and green leaves scatter across the open ground. A beautiful central medallion holds a geometric fret core, ringed by scrolled outlines and small floral sprays. The main border runs cream, carrying a vine of blue flowers and green leaves around the edge. Pile runs thin in spots over the rug, with bare foundation in places. Mauve and cream blend into a soft wash across the rug. At 4'9" by 8'6", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
The state-owned Sumerbank took over the Isparta carpet factory in 1943 and backed carpet making by hand there with new technology. Until 2008 the Isparta carpet factory was still working, a center of the craft for a wide region. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs softer and chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. On this rug the scattered blossoms read clearly against the mauve ground. The cream border frames the fret at the center with a light, even edge.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
