A navy and ivory star medallion sits in the middle of this lovely rug. Worked on a dusty rose field, a handsome navy and ivory star medallion anchors the middle, with small pendants above and below. Each corner carries an ivory spandrel with large navy leaves and teal accents. The wide border is navy, carrying ivory and teal floral motifs around the edge. Narrow guard stripes frame that band on either side. The pile has thinned in a few patches across the field, and pale specks mark the low weave. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. It suits a calm nook, where pale rose and navy sit side by side. At 3'9" by 7', it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
A single agency in Isparta had about 25,294 square meters of carpet woven in homes in the first half of 1911, the busiest agent of the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers. The Isparta Carpet Palace was in its day the largest carpet exchange in its region and in all of Turkey. Isparta lies in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, where workshops wove Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. The palette is chalkier and softer, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. Town rugs like these favor an orderly drawing, and the ground reads calmly at a distance. Here a star medallion and four corner pieces sit on an open ground. The dusty rose field stays pale and even, framed by a navy border of floral repeat.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
