Scattered sprays of vine and blossoms float around a central form on this lovely rug. Set within a cream field, scattered sprays of gray brown vine and small muted pink blossoms float around a central form. The beautiful medallion is a loose oval of curling stems with a tiny pink heart, flanked by matching sprays above and below. A wide border in gray beige carries delicate pink flower heads joined by curling brown vines. Narrow guard stripes of small brown squares frame this band on both sides. A full antique wash has brought every color to one warmth, none at strength. Pale patches run across the field where the pile is low and the foundation shows. Faint pink notes keep the cream from turning cold in a room that needs light. At 6'2" by 9'5", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Manisa rugs
The future Suleiman the Magnificent governed Manisa as a young prince for about seven years, until he became sultan in 1520. In 1544 he sent his own son, Prince Selim, to govern the city, a posting that had come to mark a prince as a candidate for the throne. Manisa sits inland from the Aegean coast, and its weavers worked between two traditions. A single rug can hold the geometric medallions of Anatolian village work and the softer floral borders of the western workshops. The colors lean warm and faded: cream, dusty rose and muted greens. This rug leans to the softer side, with floral sprays across the field and pink flowers in the border. The pink notes stay faint against the cream ground.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
