A column of faint diamond shapes rests on this lovely rug. A column of faint diamond shapes rests on a muted pink field crowded with charcoal lattice work. The drawing repeats down the length in dusty rose and charcoal, with no single medallion standing out. A splendid gray brown main border carries small geometric figures. The pile is worn low across the face, and the foundation shows through. The soft pink and charcoal lines sit gently in a restful room. At 4' by 6'9", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Ferdos rugs
The Textile Museum in Washington names Sabzevar, Herat, Mashhad and Dorokhsh among the Khorasan cities cited as sources of fine carpets. The Herat carpets are the classic carpets of Khorasan, and pieces in the herati pattern survive from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Ferdos is in the Khorasan region of eastern Persia, in the same weaving belt as Birjand and Mashhad. The colors here have softened to pink and gray brown. The repeating lattice fills the field without one central form.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
