Hexagonal guls in cream stack one above another on this wonderful rug. Over a navy field, four handsome hexagonal guls stack one above another in cream with deep red cores. Small red hooks fill the blue ground between these large motifs. A wide cream border carries a chain of red diamonds around the sides, edged by thin lines of tiny geometric marks. One short end shows a band of pretty rust stars on a tan ground. Pile is full across the field and every band. Bright cream drawing stands out sharply against the dark blue ground. At 2' by 2'11", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Torkaman rugs
The Salor, Tekke, Yomut and Ersari tribes each wove a recognizable variety of the Turkmen design. Tekke rugs are the most easily identified of the Turkmen, because the quartered gul of their larger carpets became something of a trademark and was often copied elsewhere. In northeastern Persia, Turkmen weavers keep to a strict grid of gul motifs, the same figure repeated across the field with almost no variation. That sounds austere, yet the drawing never changes and all the life is in the color. Here the guls stack in a single file against the blue. The wide cream border gives the rug a bright frame around the navy center.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
