Hexagonal guls in cream and deep red form a column down this amazing rug. Set within a navy field, a column of three hexagonal guls runs down the center in cream and deep red. Small triangles in cream and red point inward from the sides of the blue ground. A wide cream border surrounds the field, filled with a gorgeous diagonal lattice of small navy and red marks. Narrow stripes in ochre and navy separate the border from the central panel, while a deep red band edges the rug. The pile is full. The bright cream lattice balances the dark blue center of this compact geometric rug. At 2' by 2'9", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Torkaman rugs
A main carpet was the most important and expensive weaving of every Turkmen tribe, and the main floor covering of the tent. Each Turkmen tribe had its own main gul, its most important symbol, and the flag of Turkmenistan shows the five guls of the five main tribes. Torkaman weavers in northeastern Persia follow a strict repeating grid of gul motifs, one octagonal figure repeated across the field with almost no variation. Because the drawing never changes, all the life is in the color. Here the guls stack in a single column down the middle. The deep blue ground lets the cream and red figures read clearly against it.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
