Two hexagonal medallions linked by a patterned bar sit on this amazing rug. The deep red field stays mostly open, with its cream and navy drawing set in a strict vertical column. Two hexagonal medallions sit at the center, linked by a patterned bar, while stepped triangles point inward from the sides. A wide cream border carries a gorgeous lattice of small diamonds picked out in red, navy and touches of teal. The pile is full across the face and in every band. The dense drawing holds the bright red and cool cream in balance on a small scale. At 1'11" by 2'7", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Torkaman rugs
A main carpet was the most important and expensive weaving of every Turkmen tribe, and the main floor covering of the tent. A Turkmen girl was already an experienced weaver by the time she was old enough to marry, often shortly before she turned twenty. Torkaman weavers in northeastern Persia work to a strict repeating grid of gul motifs, one octagonal figure repeated across the field with almost no variation. Because the drawing never changes, all the life is in the color. This rug keeps that geometry in two hexagonal figures joined in a single column. The deep red ground stays strong against the cream and navy drawing.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
