This delightful rug has two large hexagonal guls in deep red and cream. The smoke gray field acts as a cool ground for two large hexagonal guls worked in deep red and cream. A column of geometric motifs connects the central figures, while small stepped shapes fill the open space around them. The handsome main border carries a repeat of gold and brown diamonds on a smoke gray ground, framed by a cream band set with small red and gold stars. A solid deep red stripe edges the design. The pile is full from edge to edge. In a corner, the gray ground lets the red and gold notes stand clear. At 2' by 2'9", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Torkaman rugs
A Turkmen girl was already an experienced weaver by the time she was old enough to marry, often shortly before she turned twenty. For a wedding Turkmen women wove tasseled trappings for the camel that carried the bride from her father’s tent to that of her new husband. Torkaman weavers in northeastern Persia work to a strict repeating grid of gul motifs, one octagonal figure repeated across the field with almost no variation. Because the drawing never changes, all the life is in the color. This rug keeps that strict grid, with two large guls stacked in the center. The smoke gray field sets the deep red and gold apart, giving the small piece a clear, bright look.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
