Geometric guls and stepped forms make this a charming rug. Geometric guls and stepped forms fill the muted pink field, worked in faded red and gray. A central column of hooked motifs runs down the middle, framed by a rectangular panel of interlocking shapes. The main border is dusty rose, carrying a row of small diamond figures in red, with narrow bands of small diamonds beside it. The pile is low in places across the surface, and the colors read paler there. The pink and red tones stay light, suited to a corner. At 2' by 2'9", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Torkaman rugs
Turkmen women wove the furnishings of the tent: carpets for floors and entryways, and smaller pieces made into bags and animal trappings. Among the Turkmen special carpets are woven for the birth of a child, for weddings, and for prayer and mourning. Torkaman weavers in the northeast of Persia favor a rigid repeating grid, with almost no variation across the field. Because the drawing never changes, all the life is in the color. This piece keeps a rigid structure, with a vertical column of geometric forms in the center panel. The palette stays within muted pink, faded red and gray.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
