A star medallion with a red floral core sits in the middle of this charming rug. Lovely curling vines and small blossoms in navy and burgundy cover the gray beige field. A handsome central star medallion holds a red floral core. Deep blue spandrels frame the field, filled with scrolling leaves and flowers. A pale border of blue and red blossoms runs around the edge. The pile is low in places across the center, where the foundation shows through. The pale ground and deep blue sit easily in a small space. At 2'10" by 4'3", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Nain rugs
In the second quarter of the 20th century carpet weaving was revived in Isfahan, and it expanded rapidly on exports made for the European market. By the middle of the 20th century Nain was producing carpets of the Isfahan kind in an extremely fine weave. Nain sits on the edge of the central desert near Isfahan. It is one of the few Persian towns whose weaving reputation was built in the twentieth century rather than centuries earlier. The palette is unusually pale for Persia: ivory grounds with soft blue, and closely worked vines. This rug keeps that pale ground and the closely worked vine drawing. The deep blue corners and burgundy accents set a clear contrast against the gray beige field.

Full care guideReturns
If a rug isn’t right for your space, get in touch within 7 days of delivery (14 days in the European Union) and we’ll help arrange a return or exchange. Because each piece is one of a kind, we handle every return personally.
Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
