This lovely rug has rows of deep red figures on a cream field. The cream field holds rows of deep red and burgundy figures. A central chain of stepped motifs runs down the middle, flanked by columns of charming rounded rosette figures. The border is a handsome dark burgundy band with small geometric repeats in cream and teal. Narrow guard stripes with tiny diamond patterns run along both sides of the border. Across the field the pile has thinned here and there. A bright cream ground keeps the red drawing from weighing down a small space. At 3'4" by 4'5", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Torkaman rugs
A main carpet was the most important and expensive weaving of every Turkmen tribe, and the main floor covering of the tent. A Turkmen girl was already an experienced weaver by the time she was old enough to marry, often shortly before she turned twenty. Turkmen weavers in northeastern Persia are known for tight columns of repeated motifs set in strong reds. This rug follows that habit, with rosette figures stacked in columns on either side of the stepped center. The deep red and burgundy drawing stands out against the cream ground.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
