A cream star medallion outlined in navy holds the middle of this amazing rug. Small rosettes and geometric shapes fill the deep red field around a central figure. A handsome cream star medallion outlined in navy anchors the middle, its near-black core ringed by orange. Cream spandrels in the four corners hold red and navy shapes. The wide border uses a charcoal ground, set with small orange and blue blossoms. Thin dark red lines frame the band on both sides. The pile is full across the whole rug. It brings a strong focal point to a small space, balancing the dark red and cream without weight. At 2'2" by 3'1", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Bakhtiari rugs
The Bakhtiari move their flocks 150 miles each year between winter pastures in the plains and summer pastures in the mountains. Bakhtiari rugs were made under the patronage of the tribe in certain villages southwest of Isfahan. The garden panel is the signature of Bakhtiari weaving, which comes from the Zagros mountains of western Persia. A grid of compartments divides the field, and each one holds its own tree, vase or flowering plant. Bakhtiari weavers moved their herds twice a year. This rug centers on a single star medallion rather than a grid of garden panels. The charcoal border frames the red field with small, bright accents.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
