A stepped diamond stands on the deep red field of this lovely rug. At the center, a gorgeous stepped diamond medallion holds an orange cross on a deep red field scattered with small geometric shapes. Slate blue zones flank the central figure, filled with rust and cream motifs that echo the angular style. Two corners carry green hooked forms and the other two slate blue ones, set among jagged red and gold lines. The main border runs burgundy with small rosettes in pink and blue, framed by thin bands of zigzag lines. The pile is low in places, and the weave shows through in scattered patches. Bright red and blue stand out boldly, making a strong graphic statement in a tight space. At 2'2" by 2'11", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

About Azerbaijan rugs
The Shahsevan, Turkic nomads of the northwest, carry a name that means those who love the king. They spent the winter near sea level on the Moghan steppe and the summer about 160 kilometers south, in the high pastures of the Savalan range. Persian Azerbaijan occupies the northwestern corner of the country. Rather than one style, it holds a family of village traditions that share a vocabulary: angular medallions, hooked motifs, madder and indigo. This piece keeps that angular vocabulary, with a sharp stepped outline defining the central shape against the red ground. The hooked forms in the corners and the scattered geometric fills match the village drawing described for the area.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
