Octagonal gul motifs repeat in a strict grid down this wonderful rug. On a deep red field, rows of handsome octagonal gul motifs repeat in a strict grid down the length of the rug. Each figure holds a quartered cross of navy and rose within a near-black outline, set against the saturated ground. No corner pieces or spandrels interrupt the continuous pattern across the rectangular space. A thin near-black line runs along the long edges, closing the design without a wide floral border. Full pile covers the surface, leaving the geometric drawing clear and the colors distinct. It settles the strong red and navy tones into a compact, rhythmic layout. At 2'2" by 5'7", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

About Torkaman rugs
A Turkmen storage bag, hung from the trellis walls of the tent, held the family’s belongings and worked something like a portable wardrobe. Turkmen women wove the furnishings of the tent: carpets for floors and entryways, and smaller pieces made into bags and animal trappings. Torkaman weavers in northeastern Persia follow a strict repeating grid of gul motifs, one octagonal figure repeated across the field with almost no variation. Because the drawing never changes, all the life is in the color. This rug keeps that strict grid, with the octagonal figures aligned in two columns down the red ground. The navy and rose inside each motif stand out against the deep red field, creating a steady rhythm from end to end.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
