The lobed medallion of this lovely rug has a geometric star core. Charcoal and dark brown vines, palmettes and rosettes move across the cream field. A lobed medallion sits at the center, faintly visible, holding a geometric star core and sending pendants toward the top and bottom. The corners are filled with the same scrolling vine, mirroring the field. The main border runs dark brown and tan, set with pretty cream flower heads and leaves, with a dark band inside it. Narrow guard stripes in charcoal and cream frame it on both sides. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. The cream ground and brown line sit easily together. At 5'3" by 9'2", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
Under the name “Isparta quality” the carpets of Isparta were famous in the early years of the Turkish Republic. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs softer and chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing, and the field usually reads calm from across a room. This rug keeps that orderly drawing and the chalky cream ground. The brown line stays soft rather than sharp, and from a distance the field looks like one warm tone.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
