A pale lobed medallion with a floral core sits in the sage field of this charming rug. A beautiful pale lobed medallion with a floral core sits at the center of the sage field, with leafy sprays above and below it. A wide cream band of flowers and leaves surrounds the field, with clusters of blossoms gathered in the four corners. Cream dots and scrolling vines run along the lavender main border, while teal scrolls turn at each corner. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. The pile is low in places across the field, and a pale worn patch shows along the top border. The lavender border warms the sage field in a bright room. At 6'3" by 9'7", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
In 1924, in the first years of the Turkish Republic, entrepreneurs of Isparta backed the founding of the Isparta Yarn Factory. In 1943 the Isparta carpet factory passed to the state-owned Sumerbank, which backed carpet making by hand there with new technology. Isparta’s workshops, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, turned out Persian-influenced floral designs. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing, and the field usually reads calm from across a room. This rug shows that orderly drawing in its floral medallion and the sprays around it. A lavender border frames the sage field.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
