A charming wreath of teal leaves and muted pink roses surrounds the central oval medallion. Across a cream field, a central oval medallion sits within a wreath of teal leaves and muted pink roses. Its pale core holds a tight cluster of blossoms, and small sprays reach outward into the open ground. Rose bouquets sit in the four corners of the border. The beautiful main border runs teal, filled with dainty scrolling vines and pink flower heads. Narrow cream and brown guard stripes frame it. The pile is low in places along the border and across the field, and a wash has muted the colors without blurring the drawing. It anchors a sitting area, letting the teal and muted pink settle against neutral walls. At 6'1" by 9'9", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
By 1909 the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers, the big carpet export company of the day, had workshops in five places, and Isparta was one of them. In the first half of 1911 the busiest agent of the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers was in Isparta, where a single agency had about 25,294 square meters woven in homes. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs softer and chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing, and the field usually reads calm from across a room. This rug shows one oval medallion on the cream field, with rose bouquets in the corners and a teal border around it.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
