Muted pink blossoms and teal vines surround a central diamond form on this charming rug. Across a cream field, lovely muted pink blossoms and teal vines curl around a central diamond form. The medallion holds a packed floral heart in rose and teal, with small pendants reaching toward the top and bottom. Splendid matching corner pieces carry scrolling motifs that echo the middle. Teal and rose floral scrolls gather along the top and bottom edges. A light antique wash softened the colors without reaching the drawing. In the middle a few spots have worn low and show the weave. It settles the soft pink and teal in a bright room. At 6'2" by 9'5", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
Merchants of 1917 had a name for the most successful Turkish version of the Persian Tabriz carpet: “Isparta quality,” after the place where it was made. Isparta sits in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, and its workshops spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette is softer and chalkier, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. These are town rugs rather than tribal ones, so the drawing stays orderly, and the ground feels restful from far off. This piece keeps that orderly layout, with a defined central shape and corner pieces set against the open ground. A cream base with rose florals share that chalky look, and the teal accents stay light.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
