This lovely rug has loose sprays of muted pink roses and teal leaves on a cream field. The cream field holds loose sprays of muted pink roses and teal leaves. A central oval garland of small pink flowers frames a teal vase holding a cluster of pink blossoms. Large rounded pink cartouches fill the four corners, each holding a bouquet of flowers. The main border runs steel blue, crowded with pretty scrolling vines and more of the pink flowers. Narrow guard stripes of faded red and cream frame the wide blue band on either side. The pile is thin over much of the rug, and the weave shows through in broad areas. Soft pink and blue keep the cream field from looking stark in a bright room. At 6'6" by 9'10", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
In the first half of 1911 the busiest agent of the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers was in Isparta, where a single agency had about 25,294 square meters woven in homes. Isparta sits in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, and its workshops spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette is softer and chalkier, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. These are town rugs rather than tribal ones, so the drawing is orderly and the field usually reads calm from across a room. This rug keeps that orderly floral drawing and the chalky cream ground. The steel blue in the border adds a cooler note to the soft palette.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
