Upright sprays in blue, pink and teal run in rows from end to end of this lovely rug. Worked on a cream field, charming upright sprays of small blossoms and leaf forms in blue, pink and teal run in rows from end to end. No central medallion interrupts the drawing; the same vines and flowers repeat across the open ground. No corner pieces break the light field. A wide muted pink border frames it, set with dainty blue and teal rosettes and curled leaves. Blue guard stripes edge the border on both sides. A few small pale patches have worn low mid-field, while the rest of the pile is full. The dense drawing keeps the blue and pink notes steady against the warm ground. At 6' by 8'8", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
By 1909 the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers, the big carpet export company of the day, had workshops in five places, and Isparta was one of them. In the first half of 1911 its Isparta workshop wove more carpet than any of the others, about 12,318 square meters. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs softer and chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing, and the field usually reads calm from across a room. This rug maintains that composed arrangement, with floral sprays set plainly on the light ground. A pink border holds the blue and teal motifs inside its frame.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
