A lobed central medallion holds cream rosettes on this charming rug. Muted pink covers the field, where slate blue vines and small teal leaves spread out. A lobed central medallion holds cream rosettes within a navy outline, flanked by smaller diamond shapes above and below. Beautiful cream corner pieces curve inward with scrolling vines that mirror the center. The main border runs deep navy, carrying a chain of delicate dusty rose blossoms and pale leaves. Narrow guard stripes in teal and cream frame the navy band on both sides. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. A few patches over the field have thinned, and the weave shows. The pink ground stays gentle against the navy frame in a bright room. At 5'7" by 8'4", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Manisa rugs
In Demirci, a district of Manisa, almost every household has been known to keep a carpet loom. Since 1997 the hand-woven carpets of Gordes, a district of Manisa, have carried a protected geographical mark. Manisa lies inland from the Aegean coast, and its weaving sits between two traditions. You find the geometric medallions of Anatolian village work and the softer floral borders of the western workshops in the same rug. This piece keeps that meeting, with a shaped center set against a scrolling vine border. Manisa pieces were made for houses rather than for export, which is why the sizes are practical and the drawing is unfussy. The layout here stays open, with the pink field breathing around the central motif.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
