A stepped medallion in blue and cream makes this a charming rug. At the center, a stepped diamond medallion in blue and cream rests on a muted pink field. Pretty curling vines with small teal leaves reach from the core toward the corners. Gorgeous cream spandrels sit in every corner with blue floral sprays. The main border is blue, carrying cream and pink rosettes between near-black bands. A few patches in the field are worn down to the weave. At 5'6" by 8'11", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Manisa rugs
By April 1909 the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers had set up agencies in the carpet towns of western Anatolia, among them Manisa, Gordes, Demirci and Kula. In Demirci, a district of Manisa, almost every household has been known to keep a carpet loom. Manisa lies inland from the Aegean coast and draws on two traditions. Geometric medallions from Anatolian village work meet the floral borders of western workshops, often in the same rug. This piece shows both, a stepped central shape surrounded by curling vines. The blue and muted pink stay clear against each other.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
