Small rosettes and curling vines repeat in rows across this lovely runner. Small rosettes and curling vines repeat across the dark charcoal field in rows, in pale gray and red. A splendid navy border carries small floral motifs in red and cream, edged by thin bands of repeating forms. A full antique wash has taken the rug to one level, no color left at strength. Pile runs thin over much of the face, and the foundation shows at the edges. The deep red tones bring warmth to a narrow space. At 3'7" by 7'2", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Ferdos rugs
Walter Hawley, writing on rugs in 1913, described Khorasan as almost entirely desert, with its small towns and villages set in scattered oases. He traced the variety of its patterns partly to weavers copying the rugs that pilgrims brought to Mashhad from other provinces. Ferdos is in the Khorasan region of eastern Persia, in the same weaving belt as Birjand and Mashhad. The rugs lean toward the curvilinear drawing of eastern Persia, with repeating floral fields. This rug keeps the repeating floral field, drawn in red on a dark charcoal ground. The curling vines stretch down the length, softened by the wash.

Full care guideReturns
If a rug isn’t right for your space, get in touch within 7 days of delivery (14 days in the European Union) and we’ll help arrange a return or exchange. Because each piece is one of a kind, we handle every return personally.
Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
