The stylized figures of this charming rug stand in two vertical columns. Stylized figures and small geometric forms cover the deep red field in two vertical columns, leaving no central medallion. The motifs are worked in cream, gold and near-black against the saturated ground. No corner pieces interrupt the design, which runs straight to the inner frame. A wide cream border carries dainty octagonal rosettes and small crosses in red and gold. A striped outer band in gold and near-black runs outside the cream border. Pale specks and thin spots show in the red between the figures. It holds the warm red and cream tones together in a small space. At 3'3" by 4'11", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Ferdos rugs
Under the Safavid dynasty in the 16th and 17th centuries Khorasan was a larger province that also took in the cities of Merv and Herat. Walter Hawley, writing on rugs in 1913, traced the variety of Khorasan patterns partly to weavers copying the rugs that pilgrims brought to Mashhad from other provinces. Ferdos lies in the Khorasan region of eastern Persia, in the same weaving belt as Birjand and Mashhad. The rugs tend toward repeating fields rather than a single dominant medallion. This piece keeps that repeating field structure without a single dominant medallion. The red ground is set against cream and gold accents within the structured border.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
