The small boteh of this charming rug repeat in rows on a deep red field. The deep red field holds rows of small boteh, the paisley leaf-drop, worked in navy, camel and cream. There is no central medallion; a small cream panel near the middle carries a woven inscription, and the repeat covers the rest of the ground. A cream band with a sawtooth inner edge separates the field from the frame. The handsome main border runs on a cream ground, carrying alternating navy and red rosettes between small geometric forms. Narrow guard stripes in navy with red and camel diamonds flank this band on both sides. Pale patches show where the pile has worn thin and the foundation appears. The steady red field warms the floor without crowding a small space. At 3'3" by 4'9", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
