A diamond medallion at the center holds small rosettes on this lovely rug. Over a deep red field, a central diamond medallion holds small rosettes in pink, blue and green. Small pendants extend from the top and bottom of this center shape. Gorgeous cream stepped corner areas fill each end, carrying small motifs in blue, green and red. The main border is green, set with small red and blue flower heads. A few patches across the red field have thinned, and the foundation shows as white specks. It anchors a small space, letting the red field stand against the busy cream corners. At 3'5" by 4'11", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Tabriz rugs
Tabriz stood for a long period on the great caravan routes to Trebizond and Tiflis, and became the principal market of Persia for the export of rugs. UNESCO lists the historic bazaar of Tabriz as World Heritage and calls it one of the most important commercial centers on the Silk Road. Tabriz in northwestern Persia has a city workshop tradition, and the discipline of the drawing shows it. Medallions sit properly centered, borders turn cleanly at the corners, and the design follows a plan laid out in full before weaving began. This rug keeps that centered medallion and the clean turn of the border at each corner. The corner areas bring cream, blue and green against the red field.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
