Diamond guls in cream and red repeat in a strict grid on this lovely rug. On a navy field, columns of cream and red diamond guls repeat in a strict grid. Vertical bands of striped geometric motifs link the larger figures, while smaller red diamonds fill the open spaces between them. The main border is rose, carrying a beautiful lattice of small red and cream shapes. Two narrow striped bands run around the field, one red and one cream. A few patches show low pile. The deep blue ground keeps the red accents from looking too bright in a small space. At 2'9" by 3'3", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Torkaman rugs
A Turkmen girl was already an experienced weaver by the time she was old enough to marry, often shortly before she turned twenty. A Turkmen storage bag, hung from the trellis walls of the tent, held the family’s belongings and worked something like a portable wardrobe. Torkaman weavers in northeastern Persia work to a strict repeating grid of gul motifs, one octagonal figure repeated across the field with almost no variation. This rug keeps that strict grid, with the same diamond shape repeated down the length. The navy ground sets the cream and red figures hard against the navy, giving the pattern a sharp edge.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
