The blue star-shaped medallion on the beige field is charming. Graceful curling vines and small flower heads in soft blue and tan cover the beige field. A blue star-shaped medallion sits at the center, with narrow blue pendants above and below it. Handsome cream corner pieces carry scrolling vine and blossoms. The main border is tan, carrying cream and blue blossoms among leaves. A narrow blue guard stripe edges it on the inside. White specks show where the pile is low, and the colors look softly washed. It grounds a large seating group, and the soft blue keeps the room light. At 9'5" by 11'4", it fits a dining table for six with the chairs pulled out, or a full living room seating group.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Najafabad rugs
Carpet weaving was revived in Isfahan in the second quarter of the 20th century and expanded rapidly, making carpets for the European market. Najafabad sits just west of Isfahan in central Persia, and its workshops wove in the Isfahan manner at a more practical scale. That means centered medallions, curling vine and corner spandrels. The blue star medallion and its pendants stand out against the beige ground.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
