In the middle of this lovely rug, a lobed medallion has a navy ground. A deep red field holds charming curling vines and small blossoms in steel blue, ivory and gold. A large lobed medallion anchors the middle, its navy ground packed with tight floral shapes around a cream rosette, a flower seen from above, with pendants reaching up and down. Blue spandrels occupy each corner, holding scrolling leaves and palmettes in steel blue, red and cream. The gorgeous main border is sky blue, set with red flower heads and gold links, edged by thin bands of cream and red checks. The pile is full, with a few faintly paler patches in the red. It brings the strong red and cool blue into balance for a sitting area. At 6' by 9'6", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Vist rugs
Vist is a village in the Isfahan region, southwest of Khansar and close to Golpayegan. Vist designs passed from mother to child, generation after generation. Young Vist weavers, just starting out, often wove a simpler boteh layout as practice. Vist rugs share straightforward geometry. The blocky flower heads along the border carry that geometry, while the curling vines in the red field soften it, wrapping leaves around the medallion.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
