These are vintage Persian village rugs gathered under the Vist name, the kind of lesser-known weave that rewards a closer look. Expect firm geometry, good wool and warm red color, all softened by years of real use. Each is an original piece, professionally washed, with no exact double anywhere.
Vist: bold village medallions from western Persia
Vist is a village weaving from western Persia, within the broad Hamedan sphere, and it produces carpets with a confident, uncomplicated hand. A classic Vist is a single large geometric medallion on a deep madder red field, drawn boldly and framed by a clear border.
It is built the practical, single-wefted way of the region, in good local wool.
Spotting a Vist
- Field: a single bold geometric medallion, often with corner brackets.
- Color: deep madder red fields in most pieces, with ivory and camel detail.
- Weave: firm, single-wefted, hard-wearing.

Where a Vist feels at home
A Vist is a good, honest rug for a room that needs warmth and pattern without any formality. The smaller pieces suit bedrooms, studies and hallways and layer well over larger plain rugs, while the extra large ones can cover a living room.
Irregular, and meant to be
Bold drawing and visible abrash come with the territory. The medallion may sit slightly off center and the sides may not be perfectly parallel; this is normal in village weaving.

Is Vist a well-known name?
It is a village name used in the trade for weaving in the Hamedan region of western Persia, and it is less widely known than the larger origins, which is often reflected in the price.
Are they durable?
Yes. The single-wefted village construction of this region is among the most hard-wearing in Persia.
Sizing a Vist for the room
Smaller Vists work hardest in bedrooms, studies and hallways; the larger ones suit a living room. Beside a bed, a piece that runs the length of the mattress gives you wool where your feet land. In a hallway, leave a little floor showing on either side. If you are layering a small Vist over a larger neutral rug or over sisal, its single medallion looks best with clear space around it rather than pushed against furniture.
Vist care
These are robust carpets and want nothing unusual. Vacuum with the beater bar off, use a rug pad, turn the rug once a year, and blot spills promptly. The dense village wool takes traffic well and often looks better as the surface wears in.
Checking a Vist’s condition
Expect and accept slight irregularity in the shape and some abrash in the field; both are normal in this tradition. Look at the ends and selvages in the photographs. Every Vist was washed and inspected before it went online.
Choosing between them
Look for a well-drawn medallion and good depth in the red; you will not find another Vist with the same one.
