A column of three stepped medallions makes this a charming rug. At the center, a column of three stepped medallions sits on a deep red field filled with dark blue geometric forms. All three are hexagonal with serrated edges, holding ochre and rust motifs on a teal blue ground. Dark blue shapes with angular edges fill the corners of the field. The gorgeous main border runs dark blue, carrying a repeating rust and ochre geometric pattern, set off by a thin red stripe at the field edge. A few patches show the foundation across the medallions and the border. The dense drawing holds the strong red and blue contrast together in a small space. At 2'2" by 5'8", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Vist rugs
Vist is a village in the Isfahan region, southwest of Khansar and close to Golpayegan. A study calls the Vist rug the best-known rug of the country south and southwest of Golpayegan. From Vist, weaving spread to the nearby villages, though most of them have since given up the loom. Vist rugs share straightforward geometry. This rug keeps that direct geometric language, with stepped outlines and bold color blocks. The three medallions stack down the length, framed by the dark blue border and the red field.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
