A red cross motif sits in the stepped medallion of this charming rug. At the center, a stepped medallion with a near-black core holds a red cross motif on a deep red field. Smaller medallions sit above and below it, ending in small pendants. Large near-black triangles fill the sides, carrying hooked motifs in red and brown. A beautiful rust border runs around the edge, set with a repeat of small rosettes. The pile is low in places, with white specks where the weave shows through. It suits a small space where the red can stand alone without competing with other patterns. At 2'10" by 4'4", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Vist rugs
Vist is a village in the Isfahan region, southwest of Khansar and close to Golpayegan. Vist designs passed from mother to child, generation after generation. Young Vist weavers, just starting out, often wove a simpler boteh layout as practice. Vist rugs share straightforward geometry. This rug shows it in the stepped medallion and the hooked forms at the sides. The deep red field and near-black drawing sit close together, with the rust border closing the design.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
