A large star medallion sits at the center of this delightful rug. A deep red field holds a large central star medallion worked in navy, cream and pink. Navy spandrels fill the four corners with stepped forms that mirror the center. A beautiful cream main border runs a vine of small rosettes in navy and red around the edge. Narrow guard stripes in deep red carry rows of small cream diamonds on either side of the main band. The pile is full over the entire surface. It holds the strong red and the cool navy in a tight balance for a small space. At 2'7" by 4'2", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Saveh rugs
The story goes that Saveh held one of the greatest libraries of the East until the Mongols destroyed it on their first invasion of Persia. An English consul named Abbott, who passed through Saveh in 1849, called it the most ruinous town he had ever seen. Saveh lies between Tehran and Arak in central Persia. The village weaving here sits between the geometric north and the floral center: medallions with straight edges, but filled with vine and blossom. The palette is warm, built on red with cream and navy alongside. This rug keeps that mix in its stepped medallion and the vine scroll in the cream border. The deep red field sets the navy drawing against it sharply, and the corner pieces repeat the angular geometry of the center.

Full care guideReturns

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
