A large hexagonal medallion in rust and orange makes this a lovely rug. The deep red field is scattered with small stepped motifs in navy and ochre. A large hexagonal medallion in rust and orange sits at the center around a navy core, with smaller diamond pendants above and below on the vertical axis. Dark navy bands with small floral motifs cap the top and bottom of the field. The handsome main border runs navy, carrying a repeat of small red rosettes. Narrow guard stripes with ochre zigzag lines frame the main band. The pile is low in places, and white specks of the foundation show across the red ground. It gives a small space a warm focus, with the red and navy working together. At 3'7" by 5'5", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Vist rugs
Vist is a village in the Isfahan region, southwest of Khansar and close to Golpayegan. A study calls the Vist rug the best-known rug of the country south and southwest of Golpayegan. The weaving families of Vist came as nomads from villages around Hamedan, centuries ago. Vist rugs share straightforward geometry. This rug keeps that direct language in its stepped medallion and angular motifs. The contrast between the red field and the navy drawing gives the piece a clear, graphic presence.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
