This remarkable rug has a rust diamond medallion on an open ivory field. Ivory covers the field, leaving open ground around the central figure. A handsome rust diamond medallion holds a navy hexagon at its core, with small pendants reaching up and down. Gray beige spandrels fill the four corners, their edges stepped. The main border is pale green, set with a row of small navy rosettes. Narrow guard stripes of rust and brown frame this band on both sides. The pile is full across the face and in every border. At 1'11" by 2'11", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Tabriz rugs
Tabriz stood for a long period on the great caravan routes to Trebizond and Tiflis, and became the principal market of Persia for the export of rugs. The city workshop tradition of Tabriz, in northwestern Persia, shows in the discipline of the drawing. Centered medallions, borders that turn cleanly at the corners and vine scrolls planned in full before weaving began are the marks of Tabriz work. Its workshops used a wider palette than most, so ivory, beige and pale blue grounds appear alongside the reds. This rug keeps that centered medallion and the clean turn of the border at each corner. The ivory ground sets the rust and navy figure in sharp relief, while the pale green border adds a cool frame.

Full care guideReturns

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
