Navy and orange floral sprays cover the ivory field in this amazing rug. At the center, a red diamond medallion with a navy core sits on an ivory field filled with navy and orange floral sprays. Handsome red spandrels frame the corners with small flowers in orange and navy. The main border is deep red, carrying small orange and navy motifs between narrow guard stripes of navy diamonds on a deep red ground. Full pile covers the whole face. In a bright corner, the ivory ground keeps the red and navy from looking heavy. At 2' by 2'7", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
Ecbatana, the ancient city under Hamedan, was the capital of Media and later the summer residence of the Achaemenid kings. Hamedan was the capital of the Seljuq sultans for 50 years, from the second half of the 12th century. Hundreds of villages around the western Persian city of Hamedan have sent rugs to its markets for generations. The weaving there favors bold drawing and strong contrast. This rug shows the contrast of red against ivory found in that tradition. The dense floral drawing fills the light ground with a busy rhythm, framed by the deep red border.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
