A gray rosette sits inside the deep red diamond medallion of this remarkable rug. At the center, a deep red diamond medallion sits on an ivory field scattered with delicate pink blossoms and brown vines. The medallion holds a dainty gray rosette with a bright pink core, framed by small geometric shapes in black and cream. Pendants extend from the top and bottom points into the open field. The floral drawing runs out to the edges, with only a thin black line closing the sides. Full pile covers the face. It brings a clear focal point to a small space, balancing the warm red against the cool ivory ground. At 1'8" by 2'9", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

About Hamedan rugs
A shrine in Hamedan long called the tomb of Esther is, by Britannica’s account, the tomb of Queen Shushandukht, wife of the Sasanian king Yazdegerd I. Many village rugs from around Hamedan went to market through Mosul several generations ago, which is why they were called Mosul rugs. Hamedan is a weaving city and region in western Persia, and for generations hundreds of villages around it have sent rugs to its markets. Long narrow formats are a Hamedan specialty, woven for the corridors of local houses, so many of the best vintage runners come from here. This piece sets a bold central medallion against a light ground. Strong near-black outlines define the pink flowers and brown leaves, so the drawing reads clearly from a distance.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
