Stepped diamond medallions in charcoal and gray beige make this a charming rug. A faded red field holds a column of five stepped diamond medallions in charcoal and gray beige. Handsome dark triangular spandrels with stepped edges sit at the four corners of the field. The main border is charcoal, carrying a repeat of small geometric crosses in muted red and gray beige. Thin guard bands of sawtooth lines and narrow stripes frame the wide border on both sides. The pile is worn low across the center, where the red turns pale and the foundation shows over a wide area, while the border keeps more pile. The dense drawing holds the eye along the length, keeping the dark border from feeling heavy. At 4'6" by 10'4", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.

Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Ferdos rugs
Under the Safavid dynasty in the 16th and 17th centuries Khorasan was a larger province that also took in the cities of Merv and Herat. Walter Hawley, writing on rugs in 1913, traced the variety of Khorasan patterns partly to weavers copying the rugs that pilgrims brought to Mashhad from other provinces. In eastern Persia’s Khorasan region, Ferdos shares a weaving belt with Birjand and Mashhad. Its rugs tend toward the curvilinear drawing of eastern Persia, with repeating floral fields instead of one dominant medallion, on a palette of madder red and indigo. This rug keeps that madder red ground and the repeating layout down the length. Rather than loose floral sprays, this rug relies on bold stepped diamonds and geometric crosses.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
